I found this rather odd, too. Looks like everything we say here is being indexed- that should bring more visitors. I just hope the new arrivals are the good kind... and if Google found us so quickly, I wonder if it's nearly as easy for spambots. Actually, I doubt it; I did a check through the 'user profile index', and it seems that some 50 different bots have been 'registered' here. Perhaps that's something this forum system (phpBB3) does automatically upon setup, as all of the bots were signed up at the same time. If I was any more interested, I'd look through the phpBB3 documentation, or check their support forums for the full story...
It appears that of the 50 or so non-human members (who have the hilarious menu name of Spiders/Robots), only three have actually visited/accessed this forum: Google, Yahoo and Alexa.
Tarter Sauce, you found me out. I was in affiliation with Google Bot so he could stash bodies in my bush.
Of course, the Google Bot will not be happy about me being found out. And if I go down I'm taking you down with me.
Seriously though, this off topic joking needs to stop. Or better yet, we could take it to the Joke topic or Random Thoughts topic, where such joking is acceptable!
Maybe if Tiptup wants, we can let Jomingo do the magic! =)
by the way, I've seen forums with forums like "Tests & Nonsenses" or something like "Pure Spam". Where some thread would be splited so that when they reach off-topicness, we can continue there!
This topic did have a point, but it's purpose has been fulfilled, thus meaning there is really no reason to continue to talk in this topic. That does not make this topic a playground to talk about whatever. SO the Joke and/or Random thoughts topic you go.
Yes, and when I realized how off topic we were getting, I said we needed to cease the off topic-ness.
I don't want to split this off because this little discussion doesn't need it's own topic and thus should be taken to another more appropriate thread, or ended.
Another rule broken: "Cheerfully obey all orders from the Moderators".
Just go to the Joke thread that Tiptup has already taken this discussion to, and stop hasseling me.
Oh geez, the Google [Bot] thing IS A STALKER!!! It's on every 20 minutes - 2 hours. All my searches will be on Yahoo now. Wait, there's a Yahoo [Bot] too?!? WAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Stalkers! WAHHHH! But, why stalk on DKC Atlas. Good things our Usernames aren't our real names. If they were... Hmmm, is it really Google? Edit: THERE"S A NEW ONE! Baidu [Spider] joined. Stalker.
I've noticed a pattern with the bots. (Not the spiders though) All of the bots are search engines, right? When you post a new topic, try Googling it. I've tried that with topics which were posted by other people. It won't be there. Then comes the Google bot. (Or whatever bot) Watch it; make sure that it viewed a topic in the forum with your post. Now try Googling it. It should be there. I have an educated guess on what the bots are. Bots are computerized forum workers for a search engine. When you post a topic, the search engine doesn't know you posted it. These forum companys allow bots to come into forums. (And sites too) The bots find the topic and send info to the engine and lets it know about the link. It then reads it and huzzah! The topic is now on that search engine. It's a guess, but an educated guess. I've tested this with other forums as well (Mostly phpbb forumd) and it seems as if what I said was true. Hmmm. No need to freak out; this is normal
